One of the best things about this summer has been seeing so many crafty peeps in person – and not just because many of them brought gifties.

But, I do have a lot of wonderful gifties to share with you today! Starting with this gorgeous button brooch, made by Stephanie. This was a thank-you for the interview we did a while back for her Button Memories series.

I adore this thing!

Wendy came to one of my book signings, and brought me these awesome notecards. Does the turntable on the left look vaguely familiar?

…That’s because it’s a computer hard drive disk. Rad!

(The Marvelous) Moxie gifted me with this vintage candy-making manual, copyright 1918. It warns that:

“The taste for confections of all kinds is one that is acquired, and it is often developed to harmful extremes.”

Word.

Bonus: super-retouched photos!

I actually ordered these zines a while back, and wanted to recommend them. 75 Ways to Draw More is now available as a free download on Flickr – go get a copy, it’s a great prompter.

The Beany tells the story of Michael Nobbs diving into drawing after illness forced him to slow down. Very personal, honest, and engaging. (And follow that link to his blog, which is wonderful.)

…And then lastly, my grandmother brought me this plastic canvas jewelry box, which I made for my great grandmother when I was about 10. (Yes, even then…)

I know, I know – acrylic yarn and all that. But at least it’s fully fabric-lined!

Here’s a funny portrait of me as a young crafter: I made the lid lining a wee bit too small. So, instead of ripping it out and redoing it, I just made a little patch.

I liked to take things easy back then.
